Thai message

Well, hello there!
I am already in my third week here in Thailand. Wow!

The first week in Bangkok was weird. I went from the very very  Indian city Kolkata to an extremely modern Bangkok. I hadn't yet read anything about Thailand. Barely knew where it was really. I just knew a plane was going to take me there and that was just about it. Coming from the airport and getting my bag and going through customs within fifteen minutes, I realized traveling here will be different.Got an air conditioned (!) and very fancy Toyota Carolla(!!) cab to Kao San road and marvelled at the huge amount of tourist there. Everything extremely relaxed, clean, western. The clothes, the facilities. What a difference a flight makes.

The nice thing about starting out in a place with so many tourists is that you get a lot of very useful information. I also bought a guidebook and looked up the place where I was at that very moment. I started to feel more at home right away. That is not a very difficult thing to accomplish here anyway, I find the Thai peoples are so very kind and they tend not to stare at you at all. All the tension of the past months left me within a few days. Even though I felt like a little Kit in a big city, finding my way about was not too hard and to boot I had made some friends along the way.
My new friends brought me a night on the town with three wonderful Korean girls and a wisky and beer drinking night with a mixed group from Big John's hostel. I spend more money in one week than I normally would in two, but it was well spend!

Right now I am momentarily residing in a small hut on the small island of Ko Chang with a big American guy named Sean. He tries his very best to entertain me, I can tell. But I cannot help feeling a little lost still.I must admit I do miss India a little and am trying very hard to adjust to not knowing how everything works here. I figure I will just have to surround myself with people who do??
Shouldn't complain really, you should see this place! And you will once I put some of my pictures in the album. Next time, I promise.

Do give us a shout when you are in the neighborhood, I could really do with some familiar faces! Love to you all. Kit
